This trail follows an old mining road into Sugden (Ferguson) Creek. The openness of the Alsek valley may provide opportunities to view wildlife from a distance. You will probably see bear, moose and wolf tracks. This trail is a good bad weather trail due to the rocky surface of the trail and its low position in the valley. Please note that some of the creek crossings, can be high during spring run-off, heavy rainfall, or hot weather. You might get your feet wet!
You'll meet your guide at Mount Logan Ecolodge & Retreat Center. The address is 103084 Alaska Highway, Haines Junction YT Y0B 1N0 (see map)
We'll hike about 6.5km to the Park boundary and climb up a rock outcrop for a well deserved rest stop and, if lucky, a little wildlife viewing. From that point, we'll be able to see high beach ridges left behind by a succession of glacial lakes once created because of damming by the Lowell glacier. If you choose the Half Day Hike, we'll turn around from here.
If you chose the Full Day option, we'll be continuing along the trail past the rock outcrop and enter Kluane National park. The hike will get us up to the shores of the Dezadeash River in the area of the the large washout area of Serpentine Creek.
